Interstate Snake & Raheem DeVaughn's "Stay Down": The New Hustlers Anthem

A glimpse of what really goes on in a REAL HUSTLA's head.

#DMV natives Interstate Snake and Raheem DeVaughn have done it again with their new hit "Stay Down" which is an ode to the true love of a go getter. Most hustle music gives the listener aspects of the game like the money, the parties, and the violence. In most cases that is a drug dealer not a hustler or street dweller. The key difference is take the drug game away from a hustler and watch that hustler still survive and thrive in life. There is a reason for that and I feel this song captures what that reason feels like to a hustler.

Most of the hustlers that I know do whatever hustle that they do for the love of it until they stop loving it that is. If you love something more than the money, the lavish things, and all the other outside influences you will excel at that thing which leads to the money and stuff. Snake and Radio Rah both have proven that applying the hustle to the love for music can take us out of these streets and produce some of the realest music out here that touches the soul of a true street dweller.

The first thing that I noticed about the song is that the song is trap oriented but it's not typical trap beat. This song felt like summer time and u sittin in the passenger seat listening to the big homie have a moment about why he wanted to be a hustler in the first place while he's out on bond and facing a football number. This dude telling you how he feels right now and he telling you cuz he knows that one day you gone be in that seat and its gone be another lil homie beside you. Ok man I know i'm rambling so how does that apply to the song right? The smoothness of the beat.

I remember nodding my head listening to the knowledge the big homies would drop while they move to the beat leaving light leaks in the car as diamonds clad hands catch the sunlight while floating through the air in unison with percussive taps and basslines playing tag with each other. I can say that back then i hadn't truly found myself yet, but you couldn't tell me i wasn't either gonna be a drug dealer or a rapper even though that lifestyle seemed to bring me around a lot of lows. Funny thing is that currently I'm neither of the two lol, but one thing that I always noticed about the big homies that were getting the most money is that they always move to a certain cadence at a certain speed . Smooth like but with enough of a steady pumping that what whatever opposes it usually either immediately or eventually breaks down. The smooth pumping beat of this song is backed by the silky voice of Raheem DeVaughn and is guaranteed to keep your head nodding while you listen to Interstate Snake share parts of his life with you.

My favorite part of the song is the hook it has a pace or drive to it that only a person in their zone knows. Would you stay down with me when times get Haaaarddd - When you gotta go Haaaarrd - Would you stay down if I get jammed up. Indeed if your circle is not down to this degree then they're not down and there's no reason to #StayDown with them, but there is big reasons to give this song a listen when you do let us know what you think about it.
