Why is this causing such an uproar amongst Disney fans?
Halle Bailey is set to star in the highly anticipated live action version of "The Little Mermaid" but you have to wait until 2023 to see it. The actress says she recalls her fondness for the original movie and playing mermaids with her sister Chloe Bailey as a child. She's excited to play the role, and judging by the talent her and her sister has displayed thus far Halle will do a superdopealicious job.
We all know in order to do something well you should be qualified to do it. Halle Bailey has been singing since the tender age of 8. She also has several acting credits under her belt so I would say that Halle is thoroughly qualified to play the role of Ariel. Ok with that said I have been seeing some wild stuff on the internet, on social media specifically, about peoples downright disgust with a black person playing this role. The comments and memes have not been based on her skill level as a creator, the comments and memes have more so been directed at the queen's melanin level and the worthiness of that melanin level.
Halle Bailey we can't wait to see you, and thank you for all that you contribute to the arts. Thank you also for showing that even foolishness never really fucks the flow. To my people still coming up in the entertainment industry don't let it discourage you but do let it propel you towards the greatness that is you...
